7 amazing acts that have never played Glastonbury… until now
First time at Glastonbury? These artists are making their debuts in 2019 too...
Glastonbury is such a rite of passage that everyone remembers their first time at the festival. Maybe your first year was when Ed Sheeran conquered the Pyramid Stage with a lone guitar in 2017. Or when Kanye performed atop a cherrypicker in 2015. Perhaps your fond memories are of Beyoncé reigning supreme in 2011 or Jay-Z proving the doubters wrong in 2008.
But if 2019 marks your first trip to Worthy Farm, then do not worry, you're in fine company. These seven stellar stars are heading to Pilton for the first time too...
1. Billie Eilish
It’s been an incredible 12 months for Billie Eilish. Her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, topped the UK and US charts and broke tons of records, with the brooding pop sensation becoming the first artist born in the 21st century to reach top spot in her homeland and the youngest female artist to have a No.1 album in the UK. She's also ... and is still only 17!
Billie’s star is so bright right now that she’ll be a must-see at Glastonbury. So much so that she’s even been bumped up the bill! She was originally due to perform on the John Peel Stage, but has since been bumped up to the Other Stage. “She [was] much too big, really, for the slot,” Emily Eavis recently explained to Radio 2’s Jo Whiley.
Eavis added: “It’s happened so quickly for Billie Eilish. It’s been such an amazing year. It really is going to be her summer.” And from the evidence of her in May, we couldn’t agree more.

2. Lewis Capaldi
There are many ways to prepare for your first Glastonbury. Making sure you've bought some new wellies is one, taking a big deep breath is another. Getting involved in a war of words with Noel Gallagher is not one we would have recommended, but that's exactly what Lewis Capaldi has been doing in the build-up to his trip to Somerset.
After the former Oasis man said less than favourable things about Capaldi's chart-topping music, the Scot responded in typically hilarious fashion - by calling it a "dream come true" and adding: "It’s Father’s Day and I’m being slagged off by a man who’s old enough to be my dad, and I’ve never been more happy." Ouch.
Capaldi was another act that and we expect his Glastonbury set, which was just announced a few weeks back, to be a bit of a 'moment'. And let's just remember the last Glastonbury act to be on the receiving end of a diss from Noel: Jay-Z. Not bad footsteps to follow in at all.

3. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus' Big Weekend headline set was one of her first outdoor festivals but, as you can see from her , she looked right at home. And one of her favourite things about the experience was the unpredictability of it all. "I like the unexpected," she told ´óÏó´«Ã½ News. "I think when you're inside a building and you're on a stage, the same stage every night, you get very choreographed and very rehearsed and you lose the freedom of performing with the unexpected. There's nothing more unexpected than nature so whatever it wants to do you just surrender to it."
And no place can offer up more unexpected moments than Glastonbury. Miley has said that this gig is one that she's always wanted to tick off her 'bucket list', having previously been rumoured to play the festival in 2016. "I've put everything in order to make sure it is the best experience I could have because it's one event that is a real goal for me. Nothing will get in my way to make sure it's the best time it could possibly be not just for me, but for the audience too."
There's going to be many big singalongs at Glastonbury this year, but we can't imagine many much bigger than for Wrecking Ball. We can't wait!

4. Janet Jackson
We all had a bit of a chuckle when Janet Jackson bumped herself up the Glastonbury poster, but it's hard to argue that she doesn't deserve her huge Pyramid Stage slot. Jackson has achieved so much over the course of her career that it’s hard to believe she’s never crossed paths with Worthy Farm before.
There’s plenty of reasons to be excited about her Glastonbury debut too, not only because it’s her first live date this side of the pond in eight years but the fact that it’s her first major UK festival appearance as a whole.
It’s also 30 years since her iconic hit Rhythm Nation. Will Jackson do anything extra special to mark its anniversary? We can only hope.

5. Pale Waves
If they weren't gracing the John Peel Stage this year, you may very well have found Pale Waves at Glastonbury 2019 anyway. They're huge fans of this year's headliners The Cure, and have even supported their goth-rock heroes live. Speaking to Q magazine last year, singer Heather Baron-Gracie said that she bonded with drummer Ciara over their mutual love of Robert Smith and co, describing the frontman as "timeless" and a "true visionary".
The Manchester band released their debut, My Mind Makes Noises, last September and are currently working on new music, which means the prospect of an unheard track or two is very much something to look out for during their Glastonbury set. And what sort of direction can we expect them to go out? Well, Heather recently. Wouldn't that be something!

6. Ms. Lauryn Hill
Despite having not released an album since her 1998 debut, Lauryn Hill's presence is still felt in music today. In 2018 alone, her work was sampled by the likes of Drake (on Nice For What), Cardi B (Be Careful) and A$AP Rocky (Purity), while on 2016's No More Parties In LA, Kanye gave the former Fugees star a big shout-out, proclaiming that he'd been feeling "uninspired since Lauryn Hill retired".
Releasing a handful of new tracks over the last few years, and touring in support of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill's 20th anniversary last year, Hill is now well and truly back and Glastonbury will be witnessing a once-in-a-lifetime artist. Festival boss Emily Eavis is one that will be particularly stoked to see the singer, .
Ready or not, Glastonbury, here she comes...

7. Jeff Goldblum
Glastonbury has a history of Hollywood A-listers showcasing their musical talents. In 2017, Kiefer Sutherland rocked up with an acoustic guitar and cowboy hat and serenaded the Avalon Stage. That same year saw Bradley Cooper take to the Pyramid Stage while in character to shoot a scene for A Star Is Born, while Idris Elba has manned the DJ decks at Worthy Farm many times - and returns this year on the Glade Stage!
Actor Jeff Goldblum may be best known for surviving dinosaur attacks and UFO invasions in the Jurassic Park and Independence Day films, but he also moonlights as a jazz pianist. He's a member of the wonderfully-named Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, who will be playing the West Holts Stage on Sunday.
Expect sharp suits and jazz hands at the ready!
