Adventurer Aldo Kane: I was in a volcano when it erupted, but the most terrifying things I ever see are when humans are involved

5 October 2018

Action man Aldo Kane is no stranger to dangerous situations.

Since leaving the Navy, the former Commando has – among other adventures – climbed into an active volcano, scaled uncharted peaks in Venezuela and travelled through West Africa during the Ebola outbreak.

The Scottish adventurer on dealing with high-risk situations.

Preparing for danger

Aldo’s expeditions are planned months in advance, with great care taken to prepare for every possible outcome.

“I was in a volcano when it erupted,” Aldo explained on Out for the Weekend.

“We had lava bombs landing in and around where our tents were and there were noxious poisonous gasses floating around.

“You think ‘That’s fine, that’s what the volcano does’.”

Human behaviour, however, is harder to predict, as Aldo discovered recently when filming South American drug traffickers.

He explained, “When you're dealing with hitmen and narcos, it’s very much down to that person and how they’re feeling at that very second on that day, and that’s the most terrifying thing.

“The most terrifying things that I ever see are when humans are involved.”

Aldo鈥檚 latest adventure 鈥 sensory deprivation

Aldo Kane is locked in an abandoned nuclear bunker with no way of telling the time – for ten days.

Monitored around the clock by a team of scientists, he carries out a barrage of tests to uncover exactly what makes our body clock tick.
