大象传媒 Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician 2024, Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions have been updated at 4.27pm, 9 October 2024.

ELIGIBILITY AND HOW TO ENTER
1. The award is not open to employees, agents or contractors of the 大象传媒 and Glasgow Jazz Festival, including their immediate families or any other person connected or involved with the award.
2. The 大象传媒 is the organiser of this award.
3. The award is only open to individual musicians who fulfil all of the following requirements:
• Entrants must be aged between 18 and 27 (inclusive) as of 29th July 2024; and
• Entrants must currently reside in Scotland and must have resided in Scotland for at least 1 year immediately prior to 22nd September 2024.
4. Applications open from Monday 29th July 2024 at 9am. Entries received before this date will not be considered.
5. To enter the award, entrants must submit:
• a 10 minute recording of themselves playing jazz;
• a short written biography of their musical experience in jazz; and
• a list of songs/tunes and publishing details.

9. Submissions received after this time will not be considered. Entries will not be returned so please remember to keep a copy. If you want to withdraw your application, please contact youngjazz@bbc.co.uk
10. Entrants can only enter individually. Entries from bands will not be accepted. Only one entry per person is permitted. If you submit more than one entry, only the first entry received will be considered.
11. Entries must not contain any defamatory, offensive or any other material which the 大象传媒, in its sole discretion, may deem unsuitable. Entries must be suitable to be broadcast by the 大象传媒 to audiences of all ages.

BROADCAST RIGHTS
13. Entrants retain all rights in their entries but grant to the 大象传媒 a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual licence to broadcast their entry across all media (including use in all media now known or which may hereafter become known), including use on any online platforms.
14. Entrants warrant that they have obtained all rights necessary to grant the 大象传媒 the licence as set out in clause 13 above, and that their entry does not infringe the rights of any other party. The 大象传媒 accepts no liability if entrants ignore these Terms and Conditions and entrants agree to fully indemnify the 大象传媒 against any claims by any third party arising from any breach of these Terms and Conditions.
15. Entrants permit the 大象传媒 to edit or change entries in any way it may, in its sole discretion, consider necessary for the purposes of use in the award and the uses set out in these Terms and Conditions.
16. By entering the award entrants warrant that they have legal capacity to enter the award and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
17. A selection of entries may be broadcast or used online. A selection of entrants may also be interviewed by the 大象传媒 and these interviews may also be broadcast or used online. This will not be a part of, or have any influence on, the judging process.

JUDGING CRITERIA & PROCESS
18. Entries will be judged on the following four criteria:
• Technical Range & Accuracy
• Performance, Time-keeping & Communication
• Musicality and Improvisation
• Choice of Programme

19. Round One:
A panel of judges will review all entries and select four entrants to take part in the finals, based on the criteria set out above.
20. Finals:
Four finalists will be contacted by 27th September 2024 and announced officially on 1st October 2024. If a shortlisted entrant cannot be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made to do so, the organisers reserve the right to offer the place in the final to the next best entrant.
THE FINALS – Sunday 24 November 2024
21. Finals will take place on Sunday 24th November 2024 at 大象传媒 Scotland Headquarters, Pacific Quay with rehearsals on site on 22nd and 23rd November 2024.
22. Finalists will be required to perform for 10 minutes and this should include any spoken introductions. A professional rhythm section will be provided.
23. The winner will be chosen by a panel of specialist judges based on the best performance of the night established by the criteria above.
24. The organisers will provide reasonable travel expenses for each finalist.
25. The final will be broadcast on 大象传媒 Radio Scotland and each finalist will be asked to perform in front of a panel of judges. The panel of judges will select one winner based on the criteria set out above. Judges use a scoring system out of 10 per criteria. This score will be used as a guide. However, the winner is ultimately decided on the basis of panel discussion and a majority agreement. In the event of a deadlock, the chair of the judges will have the casting vote.
PRIZES
26. The prize for the winner will consist of:
• The title of ‘大象传媒 Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician 2024’ (the title should be used in full on any print publicity and not abbreviated);
• A recording session and appearance on Radio Scotland’s ‘The Afternoon Show’;
• Winner’s performance at next year’s 大象传媒 Young Scottish Jazz Musician event; and
• A concert appearance organised by the Glasgow Jazz Festival or an equivalent prize.
GENERAL
27. The 大象传媒’s Code of Conduct for competitions and votes and the 大象传媒’s Terms of Use apply to this award.
28. The 大象传媒 is the organiser of this award.
29. The prize is as stated and cannot be deferred or transferred. There will be no cash alternatives.
30. The names of each entrant whose entry is broadcast or used online will be made public.
31. Entrants must agree to take part in any award publicity, if required.
32. The organiser’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
33. The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any entry which breaches any of these Terms and Conditions or to withhold or withdraw a prize if, in its opinion, entries do not reach the required standard.
34. To the extent permitted by law, the 大象传媒 will not be liable for any loss or damage (whether such damage or losses were foreseen, foreseeable, known or otherwise) including financial, reputational loss or disappointment.
35. Entrants are reminded that their participation in 大象传媒 competitions and awards (including winning or receiving a highly commended award) cannot be used in commercial advertising or promotions, to attract external funding, to lobby or campaign, or to attract donations.
36. The 大象传媒 reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions or cancel this award at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside its control. In this event, a notice will be posted on the 大象传媒 Scotland website.
37. The 大象传媒, their sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any server, internet access, system, the post or otherwise which may result in any entry being lost or not properly registered or recorded. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
38. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the law of England and Wales.
