3 minutes with Mogali Masuku aka Noluthando

Since arriving from the the metropolis of Durban to visit her family in Ambridge, has done her best to shake things up at Home Farm, the quiet life she was so dreading has been anything but. On the eve of her return to South Africa we caught up with Mogali who plays and asked her thoughts on village life...

I realised how universally the same grandparents are, no matter what tribe they are English to Xhosa

What would you say Noluthando’s best moments were?

Noluthando’s best moments were going shooting with her , and spending time with , helping her get up to date with her tech.

How long do you think the harmony between and Noluthando will last?

They are too similar, in some relationships that can make people closer, but for and Noluthando, I can already feel them reaching for each other to be the grown up. We’ll see. Perhaps they’ll come shrieking back to England with a story about needing and to fix something.

Do you think Noluthando and will keep in touch?

Yes. She loves him. In that natural way of things he’s her cousin, her brother and her friend. She can’t help being herself around him, and she’s worried now, so yes, definitely.

Describe Noluthando in 3 words?

WAIT FOR IT!

What advice do you think Noluthando would have for Freddie?

Stop. It’s not worth it, and whatever happens, we only have a few years to go before we’re free of the family, so just stop being stupid and hold on.

What were your best moments at the Archers?

Meeting the wonderful team. I was a bit of a, well a complete, mess when I first started. I went home and tried to untangle my pile of nerves after the first few shows. But then between pep talks from the cast, and very practical advice from the directors, I feel a lot more steady now, in my acting, and in the world of radio. So my favourite moments were sitting in the green room listening to the actors talk, listening as the directors kindly told me how to get it right, and playing, all this playing that we do for a living. I love it. It’s wonderful.

And being chosen to play Noluthando, that has to be my favourite moment of all.

(Unless you mean in the world of the Archers, cos in the world, it has to be sitting and chatting with Gogo. It made me miss my own Gogo, and I realised just how universally the same grandparents are, no matter what tribe they are English to Xhosa, they are just as loving and lovely, and bonkers 馃槉 馃槉 馃槉)

What鈥檚 next for you?

I’m in a show called Dr Faustus, with Tangle Theatre Company. We’ll be touring it in England for a bit, then resident at the Arcola in London. I’m playing Mephistopheles, who, if you don’t know the story, would frighten even Noluthando. So, a big ask for me.

If you had to pick one character from the Archers to spend a long train journey with who would it be?

Grandad, Gogo, Grandad. Ugghh, why just one, hey? Why????
