Puzzle No. 592– Friday 18 October
A group of people set out to do a 60 mile journey in 2 hours. When half way there they discovered they had averaged only 20 mph. What must they average for the rest of their journey in order to to get to their destination in the time allowed ?

As the average speed to do the whole trip was 30mph you might think they need an average of 40mph. In fact it will need an average of 60mph as there is only 30 minutes to cover the remaining 30 miles.
