10 things you may have missed at Big Weekend 2022
Big Weekend's return for 2022 has been a glorious one. We've been treated to great music, blockbuster performances and a whole load of fun moments.
From a grand entrance involving a horse to celebs catching up backstage, here are some gems you may have missed from the three days in Coventry.
1. Scott and Chris had a hilarious panto moment
Big Weekend is full of surprises, and who would have thought that we'd get Tom Grennan arriving on a panto horse?
But who were the duo inside said horse, you ask? Well, it was only Radio 1's own Scott Mills and Chris Stark, who joined Grennan on stage in this hilarious panto costume...
2. Disclosure paid tribute to the return of live music
A touching intro at the start of Disclosure’s set reminded us of the recent past when “the world seemed to stop turning, the clubs closed their doors”. But, as they pointed out, “the movement never stopped”. At Radio 1’s Big Weekend… we were right back where “the sound is love”.
3. Speaking of Disclosure... can all raves have a brass section please?
Disclosure transported us to a future where a trumpet at a rave is a reality, and we’re now going to expect it at every DJ set.
4. Joy Crookes and Clara Amfo had a quiet moment
One of the great things we don't normally get to see at festivals is all the A-listers hanging out together, having a good old chin-wag. That's why this candid snap of Joy Crookes and Clara Amfo gives us so much joy, as they show us some love backstage and bask in the glory of Big Weekend festivities.
5. Big Weekend's crowd brought energy to Sam Fender
It's well known the positive effect that live music can have on fans, but lesser spoken about is how it goes both ways. During his Big Weekend set, Sam Fender told the crowd how it lifted him up thanks to their love and energy throughout his set.
6. René LaVice fell for Jack Saunders
This is what you call an entrance - Radio 1's Drum & Bass Show host René LaVice (quite literally) falling right into the fun at Big Weekend (and almost into Jack Saunders in the process too)!
7. Jordan North embraced being the Big Weekend ‘fun sponge’
Radio 1's biggest Burnley FC fan, Jordan North took it very seriously when taking his younger brothers to Radio 1's Big Weekend in Coventry. To avoid any embarrassing moments, he had this list of things not to do. Our favourite part: "No fighting (especially with each-other)". Our least favourite bit? The amount of unread messages in that screenshot! Second-hand anxiety is real.
8. Chris Stark got a new job as a wedding DJ
You knew it was going to be a good Big Weekend for Scott and Chris right from the beginning. In fact, before the festival even began they were spotted en route by fans, who had to resist offering them cocktails and asking Chris to DJ at their wedding. As Chris said, "strong start".
9. Easy Life showed us how to rock double denim!
As far as band uniforms go, Easy Life's coordinated double denim is a strong look. Who wore it best? We say they win as a unit.
10. We want to be friends with Harry Styles and Greg James
Have you ever had a bigger urge to be in a group chat than when seeing Greg James texting none other than Harry Styles? Greg even calls Harry "sweet cheeks"! We couldn't be more jealous...
