Practical self-defence on a night out: kick-ass tips from Zarah
12 October 2018
Zarah from The Social has shared some useful self-defence techniques to help women on a night out who find themselves on the wrong end of aggressive behaviour or unwanted attention from men.
Her video shows, step-by-step, how to escape a grab from behind, or an attack with a glass or knife.
And she has some other top tips to remember should you be unfortunate enough to be in one of these situations.
—— Zarah is a trained professional. Your preference should always be to escape these situations. Any self-defence action must never be more than proportionate to the initial attack. Here’s some general .
Self Defence On A Night Out!
Simple self-defence moves if you find yourself in a bad situation.
Never punch the face
“I would never recommend punching someone in the face as it could hurt your hand a lot more than it could hurt their face.
“So, remember places like the solar plexus [the pit of the stomach] and the throat ...and down below! That will hurt just as bad if not worse.
“Also, claw his face so that you have his DNA behind your nails.”
Hurt the pressure points of the hand
“If someone comes at you from behind, jag your nail in between their thumb and their index finger as there’s a pressure point in there.
“Quickly jerk your wrist down to put them slightly off balance, then you’ll place your thumb from the other hand in the middle of their fingers.”
Avoiding being choked
“If you ever find yourself in a position where you are being choked then remember that fingers are very weak and can be snapped very easily so just bend his fingers back.”
Use your high heels
“Don’t think that high heel shoes are a downfall. They can definitely help you!
“Don’t be afraid to stick those heels in his foot or in his shin.
“A good elbow to the stomach and a punch down below will then probably floor him.”
