Jan Slam 2024 - Terms & Conditions

*These terms were updated 9th January 2024*

1. The competition is open to all residents of the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man aged 16 or over (unless otherwise stated), except ´óÏó´«Ã½ or ´óÏó´«Ã½ Group Company employees, their close relatives or anyone connected with the competition or the particular prize being offered.

2. Prizes will be advertised on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show each weekday morning throughout the competition period (Friday 5th to Wednesday 31st January 2024 inclusive).

3. Registration to take part in the competition is only available by using the following method:

By texting 81199 or via the online form for the particular prize (linked from ) with the keyword for the prize described in 4 below. Texts will be charged at your standard message rate. Check with your network provider for exact costs.

No other method of entry will be accepted. Only one entry is allowed per listener by either entry method for each daily prize. If you enter more than once your subsequent entries will not count but you will be charged.

Entries missing the information above will not be considered valid entries for this competition.

4. Registration will open daily at 08:15am and close at 07:45am the next day on competition mornings. The competition will not be executed on Saturdays and Sundays but registration will open at 08:15am on Fridays and close at 07:45 on Mondays). This will be advertised on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show by the presenter. There will be a different keyword for each competition prize, which will be announced verbally or in pre-recorded packages on Radio 1 throughout the registration period, starting at 08:15am with Greg James.

5. After the registration window closes at 07:45am, a random selection of entrants will be chosen. Radio 1’s competition producers will phone back 10 random entrants for eligibility checks and to ask ‘how much do you want to win this prize?’. Producers will score the entrant’s answer to this question based on their passion for the prize. The two highest scoring callers will be brought to air to compete in a head-to-head quiz.

Entrants must be available for the immediate 30 minutes after registration closes to answer their phone if called by Radio 1. They will not be shortlisted if the call is diverted to answerphone. If the call is not answered on the first attempt, or if there is no answer after 20 seconds of the phone ringing, or the shortlisted caller is rude or abusive then they will not be considered. The next random entrant will then be called.

Two contestants will come on-air to play a head-to-head quiz, which will be explained by the production team off-air and subsequently by the presenter on-air. Contestants will be required to give an answer to a question asked by the presenter on-air within a short time window, e.g. within a 5 second timer. It is essential the caller is able to give a clear, audible answer within the time window otherwise their response will be invalid and will not count. In the event the two callers respond simultaneously, an audio replay may be needed to ascertain who started their response first. If a clear decision cannot be made, the round will be void and we will move to the next question. The producer’s decision as to the winner is final. If an entrant loses phone connection and cannot be reconnected after a maximum of 2 attempts to phone them back, a back-up caller may be brought to air to take their place.

6. In the event that a prize cannot be given away on the set day, the prize will be rolled over into a final day (31st January 2024) unless the prize has expired and is no longer available. Radio 1 reserve the right to alter the running order of the prizes advertised on their website at any time.

7. The phone from which the text entry is sent in the registration process must be the entrant’s phone. The entrant must be entering on their own behalf. The ´óÏó´«Ã½ reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who did not register using their own phone, who answered a call to someone else’s phone or who has someone else answer their phone on their behalf. Further the ´óÏó´«Ã½ reserves the right to disqualify an entrant if it discovers the information provided in the text entry is incorrect. This may mean that a winner is disqualified for not providing the correct information for verification purposes, that prize will go back into the pot and will be rolled into the final prize on 31st January 2024, subject to clause 6, above.

8. The ´óÏó´«Ã½'s decision as to entrants and winners is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.

9. Entrants agree to take part in any post-competition ´óÏó´«Ã½ publicity if required. Prize providers may also wish for entrants to participate in their own post-competition publicity but this will be for the winner’s to consent to separately.
