It is important that you read this notice so that you are aware of how and why we are using such personal data. Why are we doing this and how can you participate?
The ´óÏó´«Ã½’s Make a Difference campaign runs at various times throughout the year with an aim to bring communities together and make a difference closer to home. We might ask you to share your story with us or upload a picture or nominate a friend for example.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ will collect and process your personal data and the personal data of the person you nominate (if applicable) for the purposes of administering the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Make a Difference campaign and should we need to get in touch with you.
We will collect the personal data via an online platform used by the ´óÏó´«Ã½.
If we broadcast your contribution, this may include the programme being available online and/or on demand, and your contribution may be used again in a future broadcast. It may also include use on the ´óÏó´«Ã½’s social media channels.
What will ´óÏó´«Ã½ collect and how will we use it?
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ will collect the following personal data:
- Your full name
- Your telephone number
- Your email address
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ uses an online platform to facilitate uploads (audio, video or text). When we use the online form, we will also process:
- Your age
- Your parent or guardian’s name (if you are under 18 years old)
- Your parent or guardian’s telephone number (if you are under 18 years old)
- Your parent or guardian’s email address (if you are under 18 years old)
- Any personal data within the content of your contribution
You should not submit or share any sensitive personal data such as your health information.
If you are sharing a story with, Make a Difference / the Make a Difference podcast
Sometime your story or comments may contain more sensitive personal data. This special category data might include for example:
- Health related data
- Sexual orientation
- Race or Ethnicity data
- Religious or philosophical beliefs
Please respect the privacy of your friends and family when you provide stories or comments to us. Please do not identify anyone else by name, and do not include any sensitive details about anyone else in your story. We may need confirm with you that they are happy to be referenced and/or involved.
Anything submitted needs to be suitable to be published on the ´óÏó´«Ã½.

If you are under 16 years of age and your story is selected for publication, or if you are invited to take part in our local radio programmes, we will be in contact with you or your parent/guardian to obtain consent to participate.
Who is the Data Controller?
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ is the “data controller” of your personal data. This means that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ decides what your personal data is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. As the data controller, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ has the responsibility to comply, and to demonstrate compliance with, data protection law.
What is the lawful basis for processing?
The legal basis on which the ´óÏó´«Ã½ processes your personal data, and the personal data of your nominee is the performance of its public task. The ´óÏó´«Ã½’s role is to act in the public interest and to serve all audiences with content which informs, educates, and entertains.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ processes your/your nominee’s special category data (if applicable) on the lawful basis that processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest pursuant to the exercise of a function conferred by the ´óÏó´«Ã½’s Royal Charter. As outlined in the ´óÏó´«Ã½’s Charter, the public purposes of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ is to produce the most creative, highest quality and distinctive output and to reflect, represent and serve the diverse communities of all the UK’s nations and regions.
Sharing data with third parties
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ works with our approved third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These data processors only use your personal data on behalf of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and not independently of the ´óÏó´«Ã½. We currently use a third-party data storage provider to store the data collected through the ´óÏó´«Ã½ online platform.
We may share your personal data with a third party where required or permitted by law.
Retaining your information
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ will retain your personal data as follows:
- Your contact details for up to nine months for editorial purposes;
- Content that is not used on air or on our digital platforms will be deleted after nine months; and
- If your contribution is broadcast, it will be retained and archived in perpetuity. 
Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the EEA.

You can request a copy of the personal data ´óÏó´«Ã½ stores about you.
You have the right to ask for the personal data we collect about you to be deleted however there are limitations and exceptions to this right which may entitle the ´óÏó´«Ã½ to refuse your request.
In certain circumstances, you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data or to object to the processing of your personal data.
You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal data to you or to another organisation, in certain circumstances.
