Gospel Choir of the Year: Privacy Notice
Your trust is very important to us. This means the ´óÏó´«Ã½ is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal data. It is important that you read this notice so that you are aware of how and why we are using such personal data. This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal data about you during and after your relationship with us, in accordance with data protection law.
Why are we doing this and how can you participate?
´óÏó´«Ã½ Songs of Praise is launching an exciting talent search to uncover the best amateur Gospel Choir the country has to offer. This could be your choir’s chance to have its talent broadcast!
To enter, simply upload the entry form together with two (2) recordings of your choir performing their two (2) song choices via our online platform.
A judging panel will select five (5) choirs to take part in the televised finals where one choir will be crowned the winner of the talent search. The winning choir will receive a trophy and £1,000 to be put towards developing the choir.
The winning choir and shortlisted finalists may be invited to participate in various activities to promote the talent show. If you appear on a ´óÏó´«Ã½ broadcast or in ´óÏó´«Ã½ content, this may include the programme or content being available online and/or on demand, and your contribution may be used again in a future broadcast. It may also include use on the ´óÏó´«Ã½’s social media channels.
What personal data will ´óÏó´«Ã½ and CTVC collect and how will we use it?
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ and CTVC will collect and process the personal data for the purposes of promoting and administering the talent search.
Personal data:
You and all members of the choir must be 18 years or older to participate in the talent search. You must have permission from the choir members to put them forward for nomination.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ and CTVC will collect and process the following personal data about you:
- Full name
- Telephone number
- Email address
- Name of choir
- Choir rehearsal address
We will also collect and process the below personal data about the alternative choir contact person:
- Full name
- Telephone number
In addition, we will collect and process the videos (audio/visual data) of the choir that you have submitted.
Who is the Data Controller?
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ (as the “Commissioner” of the talent search) and CTVC (as the “Producer” of the talent search) are together “joint data controllers” of your personal data for this talent search. This means that collectively, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and CTVC decide what your personal data is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. For the avoidance of doubt, your personal data will be collected and processed solely for the purposes set out in this privacy notice. As joint data controllers, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and CTVC are responsible for complying with data protection law.
Lawful basis for processing your personal data
The legal basis on which the ´óÏó´«Ã½ processes your personal data is the performance of its public task. The ´óÏó´«Ã½’s role is to act in the public interest and to serve all audiences with content which informs, educates, and entertains.
The legal basis on which the CTVC processes your personal data is CTVC’s legitimate interest in assisting the ´óÏó´«Ã½ in meeting its Charter obligations.
Sharing your personal data
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ and CTVC work with our approved third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These partners only use your personal data on behalf of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and CTVC and not independently. We currently use a third-party data storage provider to store your data collected through the uploader form.
 
We may share personal data with a third party where required or permitted by law. 
If you are shortlisted, your personal data will be shared with the judging panel.
Retaining your personal data
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ and CTVC will retain your personal data and your video recordings until 3rd April 2024 after which it will be deleted.
If you appear on a ´óÏó´«Ã½ broadcast or in our other content, this will be retained and archived in perpetuity by the ´óÏó´«Ã½.
Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA).
Your rights and more information
You have rights under data protection law:
- You can request a copy of the personal data ´óÏó´«Ã½ stores about you.
- You have the right to request that we rectify any inaccurate or incomplete personal data that we hold about you.
- You have the right to ask for the personal data we collect about you to be deleted, however there are limitations and exceptions to this right which may entitle the ´óÏó´«Ã½ to refuse your request.
- In certain circumstances, you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data or to object to the processing of your personal data.
- You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal data to you or to another organisation, in certain circumstances.
