Jazz in Australia
Graham Jesse has been a significant contributor to the Australian jazz scene for over 30 years now.
He plays tenor and alto saxophones and also flute, but he himself says that he is probably best known as a jazz composer.
His work is represented in many recordings made over the past number of years. He frequently leads his own small jazz groups but has also worked with major Australian Big Bands including Ralph Pyle鈥檚 Sydney All Star Big band.
His composition Shoalhaven Sunrise was recorded by Ralph Pyne鈥檚 band and in 2006 it was nominated as the Most Performed Australian Jazz work that year.
Walter Love, on a recent visit to Australia, met Graham at Davistown in New South Wales and talked about his jazz career, and about the current jazz scene in Sydney.
