The new voice of young Scotland: The Social turns 3 years old!

Since launching in December 2015, The Social has provided a platform for distinct new voices across Scotland to emerge and share their incredible creativity.

Hard-hitting documentaries; lifestyle pieces; hilarious comedies; celebrity interviews — just some of the areas covered in nearly 700 videos.

So, to celebrate its third birthday, here are three of the distinct voices The Social has unearthed.

Calum Maclean

Calum Maclean began by exploring his love for wild swimming in Scotland.

His videos for The Social showcased a refreshing new voice from northern Scotland.

They were so popular that he was commissioned to make a television series for ´óÏó´«Ã½ ALBA – Dhan Uisge (Into the Water) – a programme about wild swimming in Scotland.

Marjolein Robertson

Marjolein has been making videos for The Social since December 2016.

Her comedy is a humorous take on life in the Shetland Isles, covering topics as diverse as dating, driving and daylight.

Having proved a hit with The Social audiences, Marjolein was asked to front the The Social Presents... Comedy iPlayer special.

Sean Lìonadh

Sean created one of The Social’s most notable videos, Time for Love, which received recognition for the way it tackled the theme of homophobia in modern society.

The film created quite a stir when it was published, starting a discourse about an important subject — an integral part of The Social’s remit.

Time for Love was also lauded for the quality of its filmmaking and was nominated for various prizes, including a prestigious Prix Europa 2018.
