Long lost friends reunited by an incredible twist of fate
A new romance has helped two former best friends reunite after spending 50 years apart.
Isa Gibson and Margaret Stewart were best friends at school in Clydebank in the 1940s. Even when they left aged 14 they both found work together in the same department of the town's Singer sewing machine factory.
Speaking on Mornings with Kaye Adams, they revealed that as husbands and children entered their lives and new jobs took them to different workplaces, their friendship took a back seat.
In the days before social media, mobile phones and texting made keeping in touch far easier, Isa and Margaret drifted apart.
Long lost friends reunited
School pals Isa and Margaret were reunited after more than 50 years apart.
Their story could have ended there. But Isa and Margaret have reconnected by an incredible quirk of fate: Margaret's granddaughter Ashlyn has started dating Isa's great-grandson Declan.
When the families made the connection they decided to arrange a surprise reunion for the old friends.
And so five decades since they last saw each other, Isa and Margeret, now both aged 86, were invited to Ashlyn's 18th birthday party.
The moment the women were reunited was caught by camera and reveals that despite having been apart for so long, the pair had no trouble recognising each other and were delighted to see each other again.
"[I was] over the moon," admitted Margaret.
"We got a big kiss and cuddle on the cheek", said Isa. "We just held hands all night."
