Installing the Game on a PC

This section provides help if you are installing the game on a PC. There will be another section providing help for Mac users.

When I try to install the game I get a message saying that the Installer is corrupt or truncated. What does this mean?

This means that your file has not downloaded properly or completely. The most likely cause of the issue is that you clicked Run rather than Save when the download window appeared.

You will need to download the game again. When you click on the Download button a download window will appear. The type of window will depend on your browser - but make sure you choose to Save the file to your computer. Download will then begin. Make sure the file is completely downloaded before you click on it to install the game.

I have downloaded the game and found the game installer icon. How do I Install the game?

The installer contains everything you need to run the game.

Double click on the Doctor Who icon () and follow the instructions on screen.

The text beneath the icon will change depending upon which game you are playing.

The complete installation should not take more than a few minutes.

When I try to install the game I see a 'Do you trust this publisher' dialogue box? What does this mean?

Windows security is asking if you trust the publisher of the game. The game installer has been digitally signed by the ´óÏó´«Ã½. This is to prove that it has not been tampered with since it was released by the ´óÏó´«Ã½. You should see the ´óÏó´«Ã½ listed as the publisher. To install the game you should confirm that you trust the publisher.

During the game installation I see a License Agreement. What happens if I do not accept the agreement?

If you do not accept the agreement you will not be able to install the game and installation of all files will cease. You will be returned to the desktop.

When I try to install the game it says I must be connected to the internet. What does this mean?

When you install the game the machine needs to be connected to the internet to be able to verify the IP address of the machine is within the UK. If you are not in the UK you will see this message:

'This version of the Adventure Games can only be installed in the UK. Please go to the Doctor Who website for more information'.

This means that the IP address of the installing machine is outside of the IP address ranges assigned to the UK.

The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Geo-IP technology system recognises IP addresses provided by UK-based internet service providers (ISPs). If the Game Installer doesn't recognise your address, you must contact your ISP as they alone can register your address.

Occasionally it may simply be a network error, so it's worth closing your browser or router and reopening as a new IP address may be allocated which may be UK-based.

The Game says I am not in the UK but I am. What do I do?

When I try to install the game I see a message that my location is not found. What does this mean?

It can mean two things:

1. The installing machine is not connected to the Internet and so cannot contact the ´óÏó´«Ã½ GeoIP system to confirm the installation.

2. If you are definitely connected to the internet, the Installer may be attempting to connect to the internet but there is a firewall or router may be blocking it. Please check other windows or dialogue boxes on the machine for information. You may have to allow the Installer to access the Internet through your firewall.

If there are no Windows dialogue boxes please check your firewall or internet router configuration.

During the game installation I see a 'Select Destination Location' screen. What do I need to do?

The installer is giving you the option to install the game somewhere other than the default location (which is on your C: drive)

However if you have less than 2 Gb free space on your C: drive, or you want to install the game elsewhere, then select the Browse button and select your chosen location.

NB - there is a reported issue with installing the game to a location other than the default directory. We recommend that you re-install the game using the default settings. We will release a patch for this issue shortly.

The game installer told me I had successfully installed the game. How do I start playing the game?

If you chose to create a desktop icon during installation you will find a shortcut  (opens in new window) on the Desktop, the text below the icon may change depending upon which game you are playing.

Double-click the shortcut to launch the game.

If the short-cut is not on your desktop, the game installer will have installed the game in the default location.

For The Gunpowder Plot, the default location is: C:\Program Files\Doctor Who-The Gunpowder Plot\ for the PC.

For the first 4 games, the default location is: C:\Program Files\Doctor Who-The Adventure Games\ for the PC.

Please note that the location may vary depending upon your operating system.

Look for the same icon and double click on it. On the PC you will also be able to find it in the Programs menu, from the Start menu.

I have successfully installed the game. When I try to play the game I see a message that the Adventure Games have broken. What does this mean?

If you move the folder in which the Adventure Games have been installed you will see this message:

'The installation of the Adventure Games appears to have been broken. Please re-install the game.'

You will only see this message when you have attempted to move the games' installed files onto another machine. You need to install the game using the game installer onto the machine where you want to play the game.
