Eddie is forced to toe the line.

It's the day before the opening of the temporary shop in the Gallery at Lower Loxley, and it's a busy time. Kathy's enjoying herself so much experimenting with new layouts that Elizabeth wonders wryly whether Eddie was right when he said she'd bribed Nigel to knock down the old shop. Meanwhile Nigel's agonising over which label design to choose for his wine. He had settled on the line drawing of the house which Lizzie favours but Kathy's thrown him into doubt by preferring the more modern abstract design.

Eddie's trying every trick in the book to get Clarrie to lift his Lent alcohol ban, from Sundays being a 'day off' to lenience for his birthday but she's having none of it. Not one to give up, he brings her flowers before telling her of a man with no teeth due to drinking fizzy soft drinks but she counters that Eddie's shrinking beer belly is a correspondingly healthy benefit.

Eddie's even more rueful later in the pub at the thought of losing 50 pounds if Lilian sticks to the ban. Joe thinks there must be a way of getting a drink down her. He tells Eddie to leave it to him.
