Squirrels under Siege

David Attenborough narrates a film about a Californian ground squirrel struggling to protect its young from predators.

Trouble is just beginning when a Californian ground squirrel gives birth to eight pups in an underground burrow.

Exciting drama unfolds when this classic game of cat-and-mouse means the mother needs all her wits about her to survive attack. With bobcats, badgers, coyotes and re-tail hawks ready to attack, she relies on the local neighbourhood watch to warn her of any danger.

The real challenge comes when a rattlesnake enters the fray. Only the mother can survive its lethal venomous bite, leaving her babies totally unprotected when she's out busily feeding.
