In the centre of Coventry close to the ruins of its blitzed cathedral, Julian Richards has been invited to help with an unusual dig. As part of a millennium project to reinvigorate the city centre an old cemetery needs to be cleared, and the first job for the archaeological team is to remove to safety three burials locked within a 19th century vault.

Julian pieces together the lives of a family, his trail becomes a poignant story which reflects the changing fortunes of the city.
