Day Five

Episode 7 of 7

Series following a fictional rape case in a real court room, presided over by a real judge. The discussion is intense and emotional as the jurors weigh up the evidence.

The Verdict follows a high profile rape case in a real court room, argued by leading barristers and presided over by a real high court judge; His Honour Neil Denison QC.

The 12 jury members are all well known faces, including Michael Portillo, Stan Collymore, Sara Payne and Lord Archer. They will sit in judgement on the trial and will be followed throughout the whole process, inside and outside the court room, providing a unique insight into the dynamics of a how a jury reaches it verdict.

The case is fictional and the two men accused of rape, the alleged victim and the eye witnesses are all actors, but the trial is completed unscripted. In the weeks leading up to the case the actors immersed themselves in a series of detailed improvisations leading up to, and including, the alleged crime. They then experienced what it was like to be arrested and interviewed under caution by real policemen, and examined by real medical and forensic experts. When they give evidence they have to draw on what they experienced but, just as in a real trial, they may not be telling the truth.
