Nigel Slater hosts a chat show which explores the lives and loves of celebrities through their personal experiences of food. Janet Street-Porter pulls no punches, telling Nigel that he's a cheap and tacky food charlatan! Nigel's response is to tuck into one of her most despised dishes in the world, chocolate gateaux, followed by her second most loathed, battenburg cake.
Janet also reminisces about taramasalata on crumpets and reveals that life round the dinner table as a child wasn't a bed of roses. Plus she talks candidly about her experience of reality TV.
Janet is surprised by her old college chum, the architect Piers Gough, as he bakes a grape tart from their 'youth'. Pet Shop Boys lead singer Neil Tennant gives us the lowdown on 'Janet the Cook' and lets us in on the 'other' private side of Janet Street Porter, the media savvy urbanite, providing something of a snapshot as to what she does for her birthday bashes in North Yorkshire.
Against all the odds Nigel Slater peels back the armour to reveal a much softer side to Janet. As she reflects on her lifetime's achievements over her Final Feast, Janet gives voice to possibly just one heartfelt regret.
