Series exploring adoption and foster-caring. Halima is a little girl in need of a new family. She is nine years old and came over from Tanzania, unaccompanied, when she was only five. This programme looks at the emotional and practical difficulties of her search for an adoptive home.

After some time in foster care in Somerset, what looked like a suitable adopter was found for her, and she moved up to live with Julie and her birth daughter in Manchester. Unfortunately the placement broke down after a year. Halima wasn't ready to be adopted and found it difficult to make close relationships with adults.

Halima is now back in Somerset, currently living in a care home. After working with a social worker to help her to come to terms with her feelings, Halima is now ready to be adopted once more, if a suitable family can be found. The programme follows Halima's social worker as she attends an 'Adoption Exchange Day', where prospective adopters come along to see if there are suitable children in need of new families. Unfortunately Halima is the oldest child featured, and no-one seems interested.
