As Radio 3 celebrates the London Jazz Festival, Michael Berkeley meets legendary jazz bassist Charlie Haden, who was born in Iowa, and became famous playing with Ornette Coleman in the late 1950s.
He has also collaborated with Keith Jarrett and Paul Methany, and the Liberation Music Orchestra. His wide musical interests embrace spiritual hymns, film noir music and Cuban folk music.
