Matthew Sweet talks to director Paul Haggis, whose hard-hitting movie Crash, about race and prejudice in Los Angeles, won the Best Picture Academy Award in 2006. His new film, In the Valley of Elah, explores the death of an American soldier after his return from fighting in Iraq.

Also, can art make sense of international humour? Matthew reviews a new exhibition of witty, slapstick and joke-filled photographs and videos.
