Ella Fitzgerald

Singer Gwyneth Herbert talks to Alyn Shipton about Ella Fitzgerald's musical legacy, including her work with Chick Webb and classic duets with Louis Armstrong and Louis Jordan.

Ella Fitzgerald was known as the first lady of jazz, and in almost six decades of recording, she made hundreds of discs. In this programme, the young British singer Gwyneth Herbert joins Alyn Shipton to suggest the essential items from that legacy, including her early work with Chick Webb, her classic duets with Louis Armstrong and Louis Jordan, and her incomparable Songbook collections of the great popular song repertoire.
