From Dallas to Gurnos

More people should be outraged by the numbers of people out of work and claiming benefits, an American welfare expert has told 大象传媒 Wales's Week in Week Out.

Dr Merrill Matthews has been visiting Merthyr and other towns in south Wales which have some of the UK's highest concentrations of incapacity benefit claimants. He says many people here seem to be in denial about the problem.

"With one in five of Merthyr's working age population on incapacity-type benefits, why isn't there more outrage?"

Tough-talking Dr Matthews works at conservative think-tanks in Washington and Texas, where he's been studying America's welfare reforms for the past 12 years.
