First of two programmes tonight showing the preparation and planning of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's extraordinary round-the-world journey by motorbike, including a trial run in Australia where Ewan fears his off-road skills may not be up to scratch.

Back in England they set up an HQ and begin mapping out their trip, while doing fitness training and studying kidnap avoidance and first aid. They also learn about 'the places people never come back from'. Meanwhile, the production team prepare to capture the journey, and problems arise over motorbikes and visas.
