Popular young Dutch violinist Janine Jansen performs Bruch's Violin Concerto, while George Butterworth's rhapsody, A Shropshire Lad, is introduced by readings from A. E. Housman's poetry. Richard Strauss' orchestral showpiece Til Eulenspiegel plays us out.

Presenters Charles Hazlewood and Suzy Klein are joined by Halle enthusiast and Lancastrian singer Sir John Tomlinson to discuss the importance of Britain's oldest professional orchestra, with contributions from Sir Mark Elder and Janine Jansen.
