Sue Barker presents coverage of the second day of heats from the pool, including the men's and women's 100m backstroke, men's 200m freestyle, women's 400m freestyle and women's 100m breaststroke.
Boxing action comes from the Beijing Workers' Gymnasium and features the light welter and welterweight divisions. Also news of the women's 53kg and men's 56kg weightlifting. Commentary from Jim Neilly, Richie Woodhall and Andrew Cotter.
In women's hockey, the competition starts with a preliminary match to savour as Great Britain meet the Olympic and European champions Germany. Britain's women failed to qualify for Athens and last won an Olympic medal, a bronze, in Barcelona sixteen years ago. Commentary from Barry Davies and Sean Kerly.
As the tennis gets underway, Britain's Andy Murray gets his first experience of Olympic competition. With commentary from John Lloyd, Sam Smith, Chris Bradnum and David Garrido.
Also featuring the women's team qualifying in gymnastics and basketball as Ron McIntosh and John Amaechi introduce the eagerly awaited clash between the USA and China. There is sure to be a great atmosphere as the home crowd voice their support and the USA embark on a journey to improve on their surprise bronze medal finish four years ago.
