To mark the Orlando Consort's 20th anniversary, founder members Angus Smith and Donald Grieg talk to Catherine Bott about the ensemble's projects and repertoire.

To celebrate the Orlando Consort's 20th anniversary, 2 of the founder members, Angus Smith and Donald Grieg talk to Catherine Bott about some of the ensemble's projects and repertoire. They discuss their "concept" albums and how these put repertoire into a more social context. They also discuss the more collaborative ventures with composers such as Tarik O'Regan, juxtaposing this contemporary style with medieval repertoire. The group has always consisted of 4 singers, and there have only been 2 changes in personnel in their 20 years; as a special birthday celebration, all 6 past and present members met in the studio to record a motet by Gombert, as a fitting end to this programme. Other repertoire includes works by Penalosa, Ciconia, Machaut and Tarik O'Regan.
