It is almost a quarter of a century since Ireland last won the championship, although they have come agonisingly close on several occasions in recent years, most notably in 2006 and 2007 when they were pipped on points difference on both occasions.
France have been the most successful of the teams since the turn of the century with four Six Nations titles and have had the upper hand over Ireland in that time, beating them in the last five championships and also twice in the World Cup.
One man Irish fans will be hoping won't be on the France teamsheet is winger Vincent Clerc, whose last-gasp try secured victory for Les Bleus in 2007 and whose first-half hat-trick put his side out of reach at the Stade de France last year.
Commentary comes from Eddie Butler and Philip Matthews.
