31/03/2009 Mitsuko Uchida and Sondheim's Saturday Night

Presented by Sean Rafferty. With pianist Mitsuko Uchida ahead of concerts in the UK and USA, and members of the London cast of Sondheim's Saturday Night performing in the studio.

Sean Rafferty presents a selection of music and guests from the arts world.

Pianist Mitsuko Uchida talks to Sean ahead of concerts in Bristol, Gateshead, and London. She also discusses her tour to the USA which includes concerts with the Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.

And members of the production of Stephen Sondheim's Saturday Night, currently playing at London's Arts Theatre, talk to Sean and perform numbers from the musical. Originally written in 1954 when Sondheim was just 24, Saturday Night would have been the composer's first Broadway musical but was scrapped when finances for it ran out. It didn't receive an official premiere until 1997.
