LPO/Elder
Presented by Petroc Trelawny. London Philharmonic under Mark Elder. Janacek: Schluck und Jau (excerpts). Dvorak: Violin Concerto, with Thomas Zehetmair. Rachmaninov: Symphony No 3.
Petroc Trelawny presents a concert given by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, with Mark Elder conducting works by Janacek, Dvorak and Rachmaninov.
They begin with a rarity - excerpts from Janacek's Schluck und Jau - created as incidental music to a Berlin production of Gerhardt Hauptmann's Shakespearian comedy. The composer was not impressed with the play and only wrote a few numbers of what was to have been an elaborate score.
This is followed by Dvorak's Violin Concerto, originally inspired by the playing of the great virtuoso Joachim, and Rachmaninov's folk-themed Third Symphony.
