Two works by modern British composers with unusual approaches to symphonic repertoire. John White's Fifth Symphony is for a group of six players and lasts eight minutes, while Richard Ayres' No 37b is a symphony in all but title even if its individual movements suggest a more subversive approach to the orchestra.
