Huddersfield Giants have won the trophy on six occasions but only appeared in one final since 1963, losing 42-12 to St Helens in the 2006 final. The Tigers are four-time winners of the Challenge Cup, their first success coming in 1935, when they beat Huddersfield 11-8 in the final.

The two sides played out an enthralling Super League encounter at the Jungle earlier in the 2009 season, Huddersfield eventually running out 26-24 winners with the lead changing hands several times.
