The first episode in a new series following Britain's maritime rescue services around the coast of Devon and Cornwall.

In Brixham, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's Torbay lifeboat launches into a storm to help a local trawler stranded in savage seas with no power and no steering. It is then called out to two men and a rather cold bull terrier on an extreme fishing trip in a small inflatable.

Royal Navy rescue helicopter 193 is scrambled to a fisherman who has been dragged off the rocks by a wave near Padstow. The crew also gets called to a badly injured walker and goes to the aid of two of their own - a Royal Marine who has fallen from a cliff and a medical emergency on HMS Ark Royal.

RNLI beach lifeguards race to a man being swept out to sea by Perranporth's notorious currents. They deal with a boy who has cut his head open diving into a rock pool, and another small boy who is in floods of tears having become separated from his family on the vast beach.
