Manchester United were worthy champions in 2008/09, although Liverpool put up a good fight. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez believes this could be the season the Reds can win the title for the first time since 1990. United's local rivals Manchester City are the big summer spenders - can their expensive array of stars gel well enough to challenge the supremacy of the Big Four?
Chelsea have a new manager in Carlo Ancelotti, while Arsenal will look to end their recent trophy drought. The relegation fight of 2008/09 was one of the tightest in years, and the fact that two of the promoted clubs stayed up will give hope to those teams coming up from the Championship. They include Burnley, a club with a rich football history who make their debut in the Premier League.
It's also the opening day of the SPL's new campaign. The title went down to the final day for the fourth time in seven seasons in 2008/09, with Rangers eventually pipping Celtic to the top spot.
