Claire Martin presents a concert given at the A-Trane Club in Berlin by the quartet of former Miles Davis bassist Ron Carter. It features pianist Stephen Scott, Drummer Payton Crossley and percussionist Rolando Morales-Matos, and was performed as part of Carter's Dear Miles tour.

A great exponent of the bass, Ron Carter is one of the most recorded, having appeared on over 2,500 albums. He is less well-known as a cellist both in the jazz and classical spheres, most notably on a date with bass clarinettist Eric Dolphy called 'Out There' in 1961.

Carter came to prominence via the second great Miles Davis Quintet in the early 1960s, which also included Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Tony Williams. He appeared on the album Seven Steps to Heaven and the follow-up ESP, the latter being the first album to feature the full quintet. He stayed with Davis' regular group until 1968, and participated in a couple of studio sessions with Davis in 1969 and 1970.

Although Carter performed on numerous sessions for the Blue Note label with the likes of Hancock, Shorter and Williams, he also worked as a sideman on the same label for Sam Rivers, Freddie Hubbard, Duke Pearson, Lee Morgan, McCoy Tyner, Andrew Hill and many others.
