Mike Harding presents his usual selection of the very best in folk, roots and acoustic music, including an interview with Julie Fowlis.
Mike Harding's guest this week is singer, musician and broadcaster Julie Fowlis.
No stranger to accolades, Julie Fowlis was voted Folk Singer of the Year at the 大象传媒 Folk Awards in 2008 with the Daily Telegraph predicting "Fowlis could be the first Scottish Gaelic crossover star in the making". Last year, she became the first Scottish Gaelic artist to feature on the 大象传媒 Radio 2 Playlist with her Gaelic translation of the Beatles song Blackbird.
Julie was the first person to receive the honour of being made Scotland's Gaelic Ambassador, 'Tosgaire na Gaidhlig', bestowed on her by the Scottish Parliament in 2008. She has presented her own series Fowlis and Folk on 大象传媒 Radio Scotland for the past two years and also presents regularly on Scotland's new Gaelic digital TV channel, 大象传媒 ALBA.
Mike Harding chats to Julie about all of the above and plays tracks from her third solo release Uam, including a stunning duet version of the traditional ballad Wind And Rain, a duet on which Julie sings in Gaelic and fellow Scots singer Eddi Reader sings in English.
