From the 大象传媒 Proms 2009 season, Petroc Trelawny presents Charles Mackerras conducting a semi-staged performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's exuberant operetta Patience, which opened the famous Savoy Theatre in London in 1881.

The operetta satirises the fad of the 1870s and 1880s known as the aesthetic craze, when poets, painters and composers were prolific but, some argued, empty and self-indulgent. And Patience, the simple village milkmaid, cares nothing for poetry.
