Gordon Brown has asked the Queen to dissolve Parliament for a general election on Thursday 6 May. Andrew Neil and Jo Coburn take a look over the election battleground.
The world's worst-kept secret is finally out: Gordon Brown has been to Buckingham Palace to ask the Queen to dissolve Parliament and there will be a general election on Thursday 6 May, the same day as local elections in England. The phoney campaign is over and the real one can begin.
Three political heavyweights join the show to chew over the issues - Foreign Secretary David Miliband, the Conservatives' chairman Eric Pickles and the Liberal Democrats' Home Affairs Spokesman Chris Huhne. Andrew Neil and Jo Coburn take a look over the election battleground and analyse the campaign messages the parties will use to try and win the public's vote.
