Pianist Ewa Kupiec performs Chopin at St George's Hall, Liverpool: Scherzo in C sharp minor, Op 39; Tarantelle in A flat, Op 43; Prelude in C sharp minor, Op 45; Ballade, Op 47.
In the first of this week's Lunchtime Concerts from St George's Hall in Liverpool, the Polish pianist Ewa Kupiec performs music by her fellow countryman, Chopin. All the pieces in this concert were written between November 1838 and October 1841, which was a vital period in the composer's development. It began with the disastrous visit to Mallorca where Chopin, his lover George Sand and her two children arrived in the autumn of 1838, intending to spend the winter. Experiencing adverse conditions, however, they had to retreat to Marseilles after three months. This concert was recorded in February as part of the Rodewald Concert Series.
