International Review

Matthew Sweet chairs an 'international review' edition, reviewing Ferdinand Mount's new book and the film Eyes Wide Open, and featuring arts and cultural news from around the world.

Matthew Sweet chairs an "International Review" edition of the programme, with critics from around the world coming together to discuss the latest global cultural events and arts issues.

Matthew is joined by Russian broadcaster and critic Konstantin Eggert, Jersualem-based writer Adina Hoffman, theatre director Jatinder Verma and, from Johannesburg, by novelist Lesley Lokko.

They'll be discussing a new book by Ferdinand Mount which argues that modern society bears an astonishing resemblance to the classical civilisation of the Romans and Greeks, and watching a new Israeli film which tells the story of a gay love affair in the Orthodox Jewish community.

And Matthew's guests tell us about arts and cultural events where they are, including an Indian theatre company performing Sophocles' Antigone in Northern France, a new exhibition of traditional paintings in Moscow, and the design of the stadiums for the World Cup in South Africa.
