16/06/2010 George Benjamin, A Midsummer Night's Dream

Presented by Sean Rafferty. With composer/conductor George Benjamin, and a preview of A Midsummer Night's Dream from Garsington Opera. Plus A-Z of Opera, where U is for understudy.

The outstanding British conductor George Benjamin is the feature composer at this year's Aldeburgh Festival and will be directing the London Sinfonietta, Susan Bickley (mezzo soprano) and Pierre-Laurent Aimard (pianist) performing his own work Shadowlines; Upon Silence and a programme of Scriabin, Debussy, Messiaen, Ravel and Webern. Also at Aldeburgh Festival 2010 George Benjamin's 'lyric-tale' Into The Little Hill is appearing on the 11th and 18th of June.

Garsington Opera has a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream running from the 17th of June to the 2nd of July conducted by one of the foremost interpreters of Benjamin Britten's works Steuart Bedford. Repetiteur Frances Hills, tenor Andrew Staples, mezzo soprano Anna Stephany and counter tenor James Laing will be recreating works from the opera live in the studio.
