A Prom with the European Union Youth Orchestra in three orchestral narratives: Tchaikovsky: Fantasy Overture (Romeo and Juliet). Janacek: Taras Bulba. Berlioz: Harold in Italy.

With Penny Gore.

The European Union Youth Orchestra perform three gripping orchestral narratives: Tchaikovsky's hyper-Romantic portrayal of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers with possibly the world's most famous love-theme; Janacek's powerful depiction of 3 episodes from Gogol's novel about Cossack bravery; and finally Berlioz's symphonic re-imagining of Byron's epic poem about the travels of a world-weary young man, disillusioned with a life of pleasure. Berlioz portrays the melancholy dreamer through the solo viola, played in this performance by recent Radio 3 New Generation Artist Maxim Rysanov. Presented by Sara Mohr-Pietsch.
