EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2010

American pianist and former New Generation Artist, Jonathan Biss combines a programme full of passion, poetry and fantasy for the opening recital of the Queen's Hall series. Leon Kirchner's Five Pieces drew inspiration from Emily Dickinson poems whilst Schumann's Kreisleriana was inspired by a character from Tales of Hoffman. The emotional centrepiece of the recital is Beethoven's tempestuous struggle of man against nature in his famous 'Appassionata' sonata.

Mozart - Adagio in B minor
Beethoven - Piano Sonata in F minor Op 57 'Appassionata'
Kirchner - Five Pieces
Schumann - Kreisleriana.
