Ireland confirms EU bailout appeal is accepted; Anne Frank's Tales From the Secret Annexe discussed in the Books Phone-In; Why the assassination of JFK still matters.

The Irish Government has confirmed that its appeal for a bailout from the European Union has been accepted despite saying a week ago it wouldn't need an emergency loan. We ask Shane Ross, author of The Bankers: How Banks Brought Ireland to its Knees and an independent Irish senator, if the bail out was unavoidable.

There's our regular science feature with the Naked Scientist in the first hour, and in the books discussion in hour two, choices include Anne Frank's Tales From the Secret Annexe, An Object of Beauty by Steve Martin, and Sin Tropez by Aita Ighodaro.

The assassination of President John F Kennedy is the focus of our weekly visit to the Pacifica Radio Archives in hour three. Joining us to talk more about the work of JFK and to add further to the discussion on why he was killed, Jim Douglass, the author of the new book JFK and the Unspeakable; Why He Died and Why it Matters.
