Extracts from secret American diplomatic messages are being published by a number of newspapers around the world, after the Wikileaks website defied an appeal from the US government not to release the material. Jane O'Brien is following the story for us from Washington.

A huge financial rescue package for Ireland from the International Monetary Fund and the European Union has been agreed. Alan McQuaid, an economist at Dublin brokers Bloxham tells us a bail-out is all well and good, but the lack of stimulus is the big problem.

Britain is shivering in temperatures as low as -17 Celsius. Tom Morgan from the Met Office and Harry Grocott from Trafficlink tell us how bad things are.

In the final hour, news that the actor Leslie Nielsen has died in hospital near his Florida home. Our correspondent in the US Peter Bowes reminds us of his career highlights.
