Wednesday - James Jolly
James Jolly introduces great Mozart recordings and talks with conductor John Eliot Gardiner about the composer's operas and the value of historically-informed performances.
James Jolly introduces great Mozart recordings and talks with his guest Sir John Eliot Gardiner. As well as pioneering the use of original instruments in historically-informed performances of Mozart's music, Gardiner has conducted many Mozart productions in opera houses using modern instruments. He reflects on the changes in approach to performing Mozart's music, especially in the opera house, the particular challenges of dramatic pacing in Mozart's operas, and the similarities and differences in approach between conducting Mozart's operas and his concert music.
