David Whiteley meets the professionals unable to work thanks to unproven allegations, and meets a man who makes a living from guessing the future.
Guilty until proven innocent?
Hundreds of professional people are finding it impossible to find work because details of offences for which they were never even tried are being included on their CRB checks. A barrister from Essex who acts for some of them is calling for a new appeals system to allow people a chance to clear their records. The government will shortly be announcing the result of a review of the system and whether non- convictions will continue to be included on CRB checks. At the moment it is down to police forces to decide which information to disclose, and at present there is no facility for an individual to argue their case at independent review.
Dr Feelgood
Legendary R and B band Dr Feelgood were born and bred on Canvey island. Feelgood fans make an annual pilgrimage to celebrate singer Lee Brilleaux and the music of the band - Lee died in 1994 from cancer. The memorial weekend starts with a tour round the places on this strange and enigmatic island that influenced the band. And then of course there's an evening of music, a time to enjoy what followers call 'Feelgoodness'.
