At 1- Will Asians ever get over their obsession with light skin?

A post on our message board's been started by Hector Singh. Here's a bit from what he wrote:
My Mom has incredibly fair skin (Michael Jackson skin). Its not white as in what you would expect a white person to have but white as in Michael Jackson's skin. I'm somewhere in between, my brothers wife - her skin is getting lighter and she's in her mid 30s now...its so bizarre its like someone's taken a layer of skin off, she's gone from being brown to looking closer to my mum.

My youngest brothers girlfriend - she's south Indian (Nihal's Skin), boy she feels uncomfortable round my house.

So - over to you - Are you preoccupied with your skin colour? Is it something Asians will always be obsessed about? Are young Asians still made to feel inferior if they're darker skinned?
