A state of emergency is declared in Christchurch in New Zealand as an earthquake devastates the city leaving several dead and many trapped under collapsed buildings.

An earthquake in the New Zealand city of Christchurch has left several people dead and others trapped and injured. The quake demolished buildings across the city and crushed at least two buses. Power supplies were knocked out and the city's airport closed and a hospital evacuated. One of the biggest buidlings to be demolished with people inside is the city's Cathedral. Russell speaks to the curator, Peter Beck at the start of the final hour.
Libya's leader, Muammar Gaddafi, appeared for a brief, 20 second television statement where he dismissed reports that he has fled the country. Meanwhile, witnesses say warplanes have fired on protesters in Tripoli.
Thirty-six people have been killed after a stampede at a stadium in Mali.
